What your report looks like

Every assessment ends in a report that quotes your own words, marks the mistake and shows a corrected version. These are illustrative examples, not real student results.

Band 6.5
Task Response6.5
Coherence and Cohesion6.5

Original: "Students who study for free is more motivated."

Better: "Students who study for free are more motivated."

The subject "students" is plural, so the verb needs "are".

Complete IELTS Speaking test practice

Practise one part or take the whole test in one run: Part 1 questions, a Part 2 cue card, then Part 3 discussion. Your recording becomes a transcript, and the report marks your mistakes.

  1. Hear the question. An examiner prompt appears for each part.
  2. Record your answer. Use your phone or laptop microphone.
  3. Read your Speaking report. Three criteria, a transcript with mistakes marked, and clear advice.

Marked against real IELTS standards

Marking is built on the public IELTS band descriptors. Each criterion gets its own band, with feedback that quotes your own words. WritSpeak bands are AI-generated practice estimates, not official IELTS results. WritSpeak is not affiliated with IELTS, the British Council or IDP.

Writing: four criteria

  • Task Achievement / Task Response: did you answer the question fully?
  • Coherence and Cohesion: is it organised and easy to follow?
  • Lexical Resource: range and precision of vocabulary.
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy: variety and correctness.

Speaking: three criteria

  • Fluency and Coherence: how smoothly and logically you speak.
  • Lexical Resource: the words and phrases you choose.
  • Grammatical Range and Accuracy: structures and correctness.

Pronunciation is not assessed, because Speaking is marked from a transcript.

Frequently asked questions

What is WritSpeak?

An IELTS Writing and Speaking coach. You submit an answer, see your mistakes marked against the public IELTS criteria, correct them and check again.

Is WritSpeak an official IELTS assessment?

No. Bands are AI-generated practice estimates, not official results. WritSpeak is not affiliated with IELTS, the British Council or IDP.

How accurate are the band estimates?

They are estimates and can differ from an examiner. Use them to find patterns and track progress, not as a prediction of your exam score.

Do I need to register?

No. You can try one Writing check on the home page, and your first Writing and Speaking checks in the app, without registering. A free account takes seconds and uses an emailed link, with no password.

What does the free account include?

14 days with one Writing assessment, one Speaking assessment and one correction. It is a one-time allowance.

How do paid plans work, and can I cancel?
