"I learned to play the guitar when I was fifteen year old. At first it was very difficult because my fingers was sore."

Fix 1: "fifteen year old" becomes "fifteen years old". Pronunciation is not assessed, so there is no overall Speaking band.

How it works

  1. Choose a question. Pick a Part 1, 2 or 3 question, or take a full test. Choose the part inside the app after you press a button.
  2. Record your answer. Press record in your browser and answer as in the exam.
  3. Read your feedback. See your transcript, criterion bands and the fixes that matter most.

What is and is not assessed

WritSpeak marks your transcript on Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. Pronunciation is not assessed from a transcript, so there is no overall Speaking band. WritSpeak bands are AI-generated practice estimates, not official IELTS results. WritSpeak is not affiliated with IELTS, the British Council or IDP.

Speaking questions

How does Speaking assessment work?

You record an answer to a Part 1, 2 or 3 question, or take a full test. The recording is turned into a transcript, and the transcript is assessed.

Which Speaking criteria are scored?

Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range and Accuracy. Pronunciation is not assessed, so WritSpeak does not give an overall Speaking band.

Are my recordings stored?

No. Audio is turned into text for marking and is not kept by WritSpeak.

What is WritSpeak?

An IELTS Writing and Speaking coach. You submit an answer, see your mistakes marked against the public IELTS criteria, correct them and check again.

Is WritSpeak an official IELTS assessment?

No. Bands are AI-generated practice estimates, not official results. WritSpeak is not affiliated with IELTS, the British Council or IDP.
